The R Roundup: Largest Airdrop In Crypto History? — Issue #28

$APE — Bored Ape Yacht Club — Native Token

Stealing the headlines once again, we have seen the largest NFT project take the next step in their ideas for innovation through the highly anticipated launch of their native token — $APE.

After dominating the market with their popular Ape JPEGs and multiple collections tapping into retail interest, BAYC airdropped any collection holder $APE tokens followed by several impressive exchange listings.

Due to the devastating effect in which Yugalabs officiated the launch of $APE coin saw it surge to the top 100 cryptocurrencies in terms of market capitalisation. We saw people walk away with tens of thousands of USD as a result of this airdrop almost initiating the bullish momentum back into the markets.

Instagram NFT Implementation 📸

Instagram — Meta Owned

Following on from the conversation surrounding NFTs, it was an interesting take to see Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg commented on the possibility of NFTs coming to Meta owned platforms like Instagram.

Previously we have seen Instagrams lead Mosseri comment that the team was ‘actively exploring NFTs’ however, for the first time we officially saw Zuckerberg confirm said comments.

“We’re working on bringing NFTs to Instagram in the near term (and the feature will come) over the next several months”

Social currency has greater importance more than ever and the digitisation of communities plays a part with Instagram as added by Zuckerberg that NFTs could play a role in his long-term plans for virtual reality.

HSBC To The Sandbox 🏦

The Sandbox X HSBC

Amid all the noise of a standard week in the land of crypto, the announcement of HSBC partnering with Metaverse firm, The Sandbox may have been one to go under the radar.

HSBC was reported by The Times in late January 2021, that they were no longer going to process crypto payments however perhaps a change of heart as Sandbox announced that British bank HSBC has purchased a plot of land aimed at the development of e-sports, gaming and finance professionals.

Seeing more institutions taking a liking to the metaverse comes at no surprise with the possibility of institutions driving brand new experiences and higher levels of engagement.

Ethereum Co-Founder Vitalik Cover Of TIME Magazine 📰

A popular talking point of this week was the fact that Ethereum Co-founder Vitalik Buterin was featured on the cover of TIME magazine.

Despite the questionable wording of the title seeing a popular figure in the space given a platform to express their work is an indication of retail eyes being fixated on the digital asset space.
